Who I Am.
I label myself as storyteller to encompass all of the different mediums I use to advocate for people's stories and their opportunities to share them with others. Originally a playwright, I also write prose and spoken-word poetry. Within theatre, I still write, but also explore directing and performance. I really appreciate the freedom I've found in always telling stories but always doing that in multiple ways. I hope to share that freedom and the truth of those stories with all of the people I encounter. Last, but certainly not least, I teach children theatre with focus on personal empowerment and improving their own writing abilities.
A graduate of Central High School of Philadelphia(273), I am currently pursuing my bachelor's degree in Theatre and Sociology. Above all else though, I'm interested in investigation. What kinds of work can I create? How many ways can I make art? What am I most inspired by in the world? How do I influence her surroundings? How am I influenced? What is my responsibility in supplying the needs of my communities? How can I make sure I am always actively owning that responsibility and working to make the world better?
Who I'd Like to Be.
I have three main goals in life that I am always working toward. The hope is that, as I grow and learn, these goals will, too. For now, though, I think I will...
- work to productively change the way we have conversations about race in this country to be both more effective and genuinely inclusive.
- work with children to make sure they have the tools to be as successful as possible.
"It is easier to build strong children than to repair broken men." -Frederick Douglass - Create, Curate, and Share stories of all kinds of people to combat what Chimamanda Adiche calls "The Danger of a Single Story."
