Faith Jones-Jackson

STORYTELLER.  ACTIVIST.  STUDENT.

Who I Am.

I label myself as storyteller to encompass all of the different mediums I use to advocate for people's stories and their opportunities to share them with others. Originally a playwright, I also write prose and spoken-word poetry. Within theatre, I still write, but also explore directing and performance. I really appreciate the freedom I've found in always telling stories but always doing that in multiple ways. I hope to share that freedom and the truth of those stories with all of the people I encounter. Last, but certainly not least, I teach children theatre with focus on personal empowerment and improving their own writing abilities.

A graduate of Central High School of Philadelphia(273), I am currently pursuing my bachelor's degree in Theatre and Sociology. Above all else though, I'm interested in investigation. What kinds of work can I create? How many ways can I make art? What am I most inspired by in the world? How do I influence her surroundings? How am I influenced? What is my responsibility in supplying the needs of my communitiesHow can I make sure I am always actively owning that responsibility and working to make the world better?

Who I'd Like to Be.

I have three main goals in life that I am always working toward. The hope is that, as I grow and learn, these goals will, too. For now, though, I think I will...

  1.  work to productively change the way we have conversations about race in this country to be both more effective and genuinely inclusive.
  2. work with children to make sure they have the tools to be as successful as possible.
"It is easier to build strong children than to repair broken men."  -Frederick Douglass
  3.  Create, Curate, and Share stories of all kinds of people to combat what Chimamanda Adiche calls "The Danger of a Single Story."

What I do.

  4. How do we deal with [insert racial incident within community here]? (i.e. - Blackface on college campuses, racial slurs in public, etc.)
